HCA’s Chasinee Sonthong visits Myanmar

25 January 2013

During the past year, particularly after Aung San Suu Kyi’s release from house arrest and US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton’s widely publicized visit to Rangoon (Yangon), many people are suddenly awakening to Burma’s (Myanmar) potential.

We all know that China and India are vitally interested in Burma’s vast resources and in the past decade China has been implementing plans to join its interior land-locked provinces with the Indian Ocean.

New highways, high-speed railways and pipelines are continuously being planned and built. In January, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra announced that Thailand will be working closely with Myanmar in the development of its infrastructure.

Myanmar has become a major business focus for everyone. At the same time, many of us fear the idyllic Burma of breathtaking beauty and mystical charm may soon disappear.

Last year, we had the pleasure of visiting several of Burma’s fantastic tourist destinations and brought along our trusty camera. We took many photographs of the country’s charming beauty and would like to share them with you and hopefully encourage you to visit.

Our visit centered in three main areas, Yangon (Rangoon) the capital city, Mandalay, the last capital of the Burmese monarchy and Bago, the site of the Shewthalyoung Buddha or the Reclining Buddha.

Please enjoy our fantastic memories.
